Atropine eye drops are a form of penalization treatment. The concept is basic: use an eye drop that blurs the better-seeing eye and forces the weak eye to work. This form of amblyopia treatment has been done for many years and focuses mainly on improving the visual acuity of the weak eye while allowing the patient to see (albeit a blurry image) with the better-seeing eye. A patient should wear his/her best correction (eyeglasses) while doing this form of treatment.
